AND A EVENING OF MAKE 'N TAKES

Hospitality Night and Awards Banquet
Each year our convention seems to get better and better, and this year was no exception. Of course we all come for the great education that is offered, however, it is also a time when Chapters and Members receive recognition for their achievements during the past year. The Awards Banquet has become a highlight, the entertainment is always welcomed, but the Awards are truly special.

Our dearly loved Fred Rowley kicked off the event by leading us in prayer which was followed by a great dinner and a wonderful chocolate dessert.

All first time attendees were called upon and presented stoneware juicers, made by the Golden Poppy chapter. This year there were 18 members attending convention for the first time!

Pat Lackey and Donna McCombie was introduced as the two Charter Members of IADCCT in attendance. They were also introduced as members of the quarter Century Club along with Louise Dickson and Jerry Vickers. Quarter Century members have been members of IADCCT for 25 years or more. Two Quarter Century members were inducted but was not able to attend convention, Dolores Dent from Texas and Kay Harmon from California.

Recognition of achievements for the Educational Showcase Programs were presented by Joyce Wright, Chairman. The highest award is now a plaque for earning 400 credits. We were proud to award two of these plaques to Fred Rowley and Arlene Smith.

Three new Chapters were recognized: Ohio Valley Claymates, Florida Fired Arts and the Australian Waratahs.

This years' hosting chapters were recognized:
Southern Stars, Hosting Chapter Chair
Klayducks Los Padres Oklahoma Dreamcatchers
Silver Sage Sage Brush Ohio Valley Claymates
Saguaro Golden Poppy

Arlene Smith received the President's Award. The IADCCT President has the option to award this honor to a member for their outstanding contributions to our organization. Arlene was an excellent choice for this award.

Dru presented a plaque to Larry Duncan for his continued dedication and support to IADCCT which was accepted by Dean Saether. Dru and Arlene together then presented Karen Smith, also of Duncan Enterprises, with a plaque and a special "Miss Ceramics Thru Time" clock.

The most prestigious IADCCT Award given each year is the Cleo Curtis Award. Larry Knight, Member at Large, and Donna McCombie, last years' recipient presented the award to this years' winner….David Hoff.

Beth Lane, Spotlight Competition Chair presented the winners of the Spotlight Competition their awards. The winners were: Best of Show-Sylvia Clayton, President's Choice-Wendy Mack, Group C 1st Place-Donna Gould, Group D 1st Place-Ann Barton.

The evening concluded with Kathy Walker who delighted us with her comedy and many impersonations-to name just a few- Bette Midler, Barbara Streisand and Cher.

An Evening of Make 'N Takes
Thanks to all of you who participated in our Sunday Evening Make 'N Take Event.

It is because of all of you that this event once again was a great success. Thanks to all those who volunteered to be the instructor for the evening this year:
Jan Bauer - Florida
Margie Bordner - California
Sylvia Clayton - England
Donna Gould - Oklahoma
David Hoffman - Canada
Fred Rowley - California
Arlene Smith - California
Penny Yeatts - New Mexico
Musette Young- Colorado
We had good representation from across the globe, and as I thought we have some hidden talent in our organization!

After speaking with many of you, the consensus is to continue this event in 2004.

Education:
The education offered at convention is always the best. We completed great projects taught by David Hoff, Pam Wayman, Jan Bauer, and Duncan Enterprises' Larry Knight. Some of these classes can be downloaded if you are a IADCCT member by logging on to our "members only" section.

Added Education:
Pre Convention Classes

We were every fortunate this year to be able to offer our members three preconvention classes this year. The projects were all great and it was really hard to have to chose.

Saturday-Sylvia Clayton, from England, kicked off the education. Our project was a rooster design on a 11" square plate.

Sunday-Sylvia Clayton again taught the early bird session, using Boothe Colors for Earth. We painted flowers and a butterfly.

Sunday-David Hoff's class consisted of two pieces with wonderful designs that taught you how to use a dagger brush.

All the pieces and projects were wonderful which made choosing which seminar to take difficult.

Post Convention Classes
Jan Bauer taught a Miami Tropic Scene with a drop and fill technique on Wednesday following convention. Jan is a talented Duncan Ambassador and also the President of the Ambassador Chapter. Did you know the Ambassador Chapter had the most members of a chapter attending convention? This was a first-Congratulations Jan! The class was great fun, stress free, included a wonderful lunch and we also had a lot of laughter!
